Jessica Zafra (one of my favorite writers) wrote some tips in her Twisted column today. “One way to give your brain a workout is to learn a language. Not only do you have to memorize the grammatical rules and vocabulary of that language but you have to translate from your first language to that language and back, and start thinking in that language. Thereby exercising many parts of your brain. “
Damn, I suck at languages. Did you know that I never knew what a noun was until I was a freshman in high school? I’m that lousy. Maybe it was because I wasn’t so serious about my grades until I became a sophomore. Well whatever. It’s kind of embarassing for me because I’m like, “Huh?” when my teacher asks me a question in Spanish. And a lot of my classmates are multilingual, whereas I still stumble on my Tagalog occassionally.
