Looking through the pictures and remembering my trip to Bangkok and Vientiane kind of got me thinking about why the Philippines hardly seems like an Asian country. In terms of location, we are Asian but actually we behave more like Hispanics. I think it’s because we were colonized by the Spaniards for so long (300 years) and also because the Philippines is the only predominantly Catholic country in Asia. When I was in Laos and we visited Wat Pra Keo, I heard Buddhist monks chanting and the first thing that came to my mind was, “Wow. I really am in Asia. [read more?]
