LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - A “American Idol: The Search for a Superstar” contestant has apparently lied about his or her age and will be disqualified from the competition.
The contestant is one of the 10 who will vie for the last three viewer-determined spots in the finals on Tuesday’s show, a FOX spokesman tells Zap2it. The network is declining to release the person’s name before the broadcast.
One of the qualifications for “American Idol” contestants is that they be between 16 and 24 years old. The disqualified contestant is 29, according to the network spokesman. Discrepancies in materials the person submitted for a background check alerted the show’s producers to the issue.
The disqualification is the latest incident in which background checks have failed to prevent those who wouldn’t have qualified otherwise from making it on the air.
“Temptation Island” couple Ytossie Patterson and Taheed Watson were kicked off the show after it was revealed they had a child together, a violation of the show’s rules for couples. Last summer, after “Big Brother 2″ contestant Justin Sebik was booted for brandishing a knife at another contestant, it was revealed that he had been arrested five times before, although charges against him in each case were eventually dropped.
The disqualified “Idol” contestant will be replaced by E.J. Day of Lawrenceville, Ga. Day flew to Los Angeles late last week to take part in the taping of Tuesday’s show.
Man I wonder who it is.. I’m guessing it’s Kelly Clarkson.
