Generation Next…Generation Net

I was searching for a certain file in my hard disk when I discovered some of my writings in the past. And one of them was Generation Next…Generation Net written when I was 11 , the time when the net was relatively smaller then. Here’s the full article.

“A decade ago, the world was totally different. Nail polish were red or pink, those little peace signs were everywhere, everyone were wearing flowers all over their clothes and the Beatles rocked the house. Now, nail polish are in practically any colour, smileys are everywhere and Boyzone rules. Now the people from the last decade says we’re the generation next. Is it true? It sure is. And we’re not just the generation next but the generation net.

Generation net means the people in the Net. I was one of the first kids in the net . At that time, the Net was still low tech, not much JAVA, no Shockwave, no cool graphics and only the graphics that looked scribbled, no cool background and no stuff that we see now. Two years later, the Net has all those stuff and the Net population is growing.

Okay, let’s leave the Net for awhile and let’s go to reality. I read in a magazine (source: A.Teen) that this generation thing causes little arguments with our parents (geez, I sound like a psychiatrist, don’t I?). It’s because of the generation gap. It’s like you’re chatting in this chatroom and your mum suddenly joins you. “What are you doing?” she asks. “Duh,” you would say. “I’m chatting on the Net in this room with people around the world.” She looks confused. “These,” she says, reffering to the handles, “are from around the world?” “DUH!!!” you say more loudly. “You see, it’s like this…” And you go on explaining everything about the ‘Net.

So you see? That’s an example of what the generation gap does. I think what you should do to avoid this is to let your folks know about what’s going on! Like about the latest in music, fashion, sports, etc. It’s going to take some time but soon, your parents will finally accept it. And they’ll be able to understand you better.

Enough about this generation. Let’s think of the future. I’m not sure what you’ll do for your future but this will be mine. My Net friends and I will go and meet in LA sometime in October, because of the KCI World Tour. Right now, I’m part of a web design company called HOP! Media which will provide us money for the World Tour. Then years later, when I’ve finished college, my net friends ,Casey, Martin, Steph, Daniel and I will live in a condo in the UK and form a band called Impulse. When we’ve been successful for a few years, we might retire and I’m going to marry my secret crush (as if).

So this is my future. This is our generation. Enjoy it, for it isn’t going to be here forever.”
