I watched Imelda , the documentary film by Ramona Diaz, and winner for Best Cinematography at the Sundance Film Festival. It “features stunning candid interviews with the former Philippines first lady and an array of childhood friends, opponents and observers”. Now I know why she wanted it banned here in the Philippines.
OHMYGOD!!
It has got to be the funniest documentary I’ve ever seen. I spent half of it laughing and the other half letting out shrieks of “What?!” - much to the annoyance of the other people in the theater. The woman is delusional and actually has her own (twisted) philosophy. “It is easy to be beautiful, because beauty is natural.”.
She even wrote a book about Imeldism (she didn’t call it that - I did) , and the whole thing is weird. It involves beauty and is so confusing, I had difficulty following it. So I won’t bother trying to write it down and explain it to you but hey, I actually admire her for doing that. Many viewers’ favourite moment has been when Ms Marcos draws pictures to demonstrate her philosophy of life. She explains, in a somewhat confusing manner, that the circle of life can also be a smiley face, but when it is broken it becomes a Pac-Man.
Someday I’ll write a book about the philosophy I live by.
