The Great Raid is the story of a daring mission to rescue over 500 American Prisoners of War from a Japanese POW camp in Cabanatuan . It’s opening today in Metro Manila theaters. Given the rave reviews, this is one film worth seeing.
The Hollywood-produced movie features Benjamin Bratt as Colonel Henry Mucci who leads the daring mission. He is aided by Filipino guerrillas headed by Captain Juan Pajota, a role brilliantly played by Cesar Montano. “The Great Raid” is based on an actual historical event documented in Hampton Sides’ book “Ghost Soldiers,” Forrest Bryant Johnson’s “Hour of Redemption,” and William Breuer’s “The Great Raid.”
Described as the “greatest mission in U.S. military history,” the carefully-planned feat was carried out by 121 hand-selected U.S. Army Rangers. Set in the Philippines in 1945, the story dramatizes as well the heroism, bravery and daring of Filipino guerillas, without whose help the mission would not have been possible.
