On the front of the new 100-peso note, which is worth about $1.83, the last name of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is spelled “Arrovo”, with a “v”.
The printing of the controversial bills–where the President’s surname was misspelled as “Arrovo”–was outsourced to a contractor from Europe, to ensure a sufficient supply of these bills which are highly in demand during the Christmas season.
Opposition thinks the misspelling of the President’s name as “Arrovo” might have been an honest mistake but the joke is on her. So now this latest fiasco is now a national joke. ‘rovo’ sounds like ‘robo’ which means robbery in Spanish, according to one congressman. Another congressman says ‘dorobou’ is used to describe a thief, burglar, or robber in Japanese.
Now to get hold of one. This could be a collector’s item.
