Flash Mob Protest at Starbucks

I find this incredibly stupid!! Black Friday at Starbucks

Patterned after the flash mob concept, the Black Friday Protest calls on people to gather at a designated time and place every Friday wearing a black attire as a symbol of protest. There will be no programs or speeches. Instead, people will be given specific instructions on what to do, and the whole exercise should last about 30 minutes at most.

It’s safe, non-confrontational, and within the bounds of the law, even under a repressive one like PP 1017. The mere “flash” gathering of the people is the expression of protest.

This first instance on Friday, March 3, involved Starbucks. As noted by Saturday’s International Herald Tribune, after kindly using a quote from me about political “froth,”

Indeed, when all was said and done, this latest crisis did seem to be a bit like froth in a coffee cup.

An anti-Arroyo group calling itself eLagda issued a call to the middle class to express their discontent by lining up at Starbucks outlets and buying coffee.

“Starbucks is their natural hangout,” Vicente Romano, an organizer of this latest version of people power, told The Philippine Star daily.

what will they think of next?
