Ryan Cayabyab is the first judge for “Philippine Idol,” which is set to premiere on ABC 5 in July.
Cayabyab admitted that he was feeling the pressure to produce a worthy lineup of “Philippine Idol” aspirants especially since this season’s “AI” contestants are the best ever.
In the present batch, Cayabyab is placing his bets on Chris Daughtry and Mandisa for their vocal chops, but he also thinks Katharine McPhee and Taylor Hicks score points for on-cam charisma.
“Taylor gives his all and makes the audience feel good in his every performance,” Cayabyab said. “Local singers could learn from this ‘AI’ crop. There are other ways to perform than just making birit [belting] and screaming.”
I do hope the Philippine Idol judges choose contestants with the highest standards. It’s boring to hear those high notes as if one is only a great singer if one hits those notes.
