Finally, Philippine Idol
The Philippine Idol set at PICC’s Secretariat Building is exactly what American Idol fans would expect. There are about 18 roving cameras to capture every aspect of the contest.
As with everyone who auditioned, the cameras began trailing Danielo, 21, the moment he entered the Idol set on June 8—the first time judges Ryan Cayabyab, Pilita Corales, and Francis Magalona faced the contestants. After getting accustomed to the cameras, he faced them and said, “Para sa ’yo ito, Inay (This is for you, mother). I love you.” He uttered it several times, in different ways, as if to give editors clips to choose from. He knew that his family in Cagayan de Oro would see him on television when Philippine Idol runs on ABC-5.
It’s good that they are reaching out to talented singers all over the Philippines. It’s also a wise marketing move as viewers from the different regions will get to watch the coverage. The X-factor that Francis Magalona (one of the judges) is seeking will definitely be discovered outside of Metro Manila. I hope!
Magalona is looking for the “X-factor.” “Sometimes I close my eyes to listen for some sort of identity. But definitely I’m looking for the X-factor. I can’t really explain what it is. He or she doesn’t have to be drop-dead gorgeous.”
