Matt Sato Makes His Mom Proud On American Idol 6
Matt Sato told the camera that unlike many of the other contestants who had their parents with them for support that his mom and stepfather weren’t there with him. Ryan Seacrest asked Matt why his parents weren’t supportive of him being there, and Matt responded, “Throughout the years, I’ve found a lot of financial issues with performing, and the money it cost to be in show choir at my high school, and go places and travel around for national competitions, it adds up.”
Sixteen year old Matt Sato from Maplewood, Minnesota sang “California Dreamin’” by The Mamas and The Papas. Simon Cowell said “Good, you’ve got something Matt, you know you’re sixteen years old, you’ve got a very mature voice, you’re good.”
Jewel said “I was surprised. I thought your softer, warmer notes were nice, and I was a little scared when you went up into your full voice, but it was nice. I wasn’t scared once I heard it.” Randy Jackson said “Dude, I liked you too. I thought you were good, man.” All four judges agreed to put Matt through to Hollywood. After the audition, an emotional Matt called his mom and told her that he made it to Hollywood. After the phone call, Matt sobbed “She’s proud of me.”
And in Minnesotans Shine and Flop on American Idol, Sato explained why he got so emotional while calling his mother. “Because I’d never really felt that she’d been completely proud of me before,” he said.
Well I bet his mom is truly proud of her son now. Matt Sato is such a sweetie.
