The new season of Weeds startrs on August 13. Jenji Kohan feels tired but great. She took the finale of season two and looked at it like a pilot for season three. The adventure continues. This new season is really the education of a gangster. It’s interesting to see that Jenji’s first job in TV was as a PA on a Jay Tarses show called Smoldering Lust. At least working from the bottom ranks prodded her to work harder. As a PA, she xeroxed sides, mixed dressing into Jay’s chopped salad, made coffee runs for the crew in a pre-Starbucks era. Jenji had fun, but it made her realize that working through the ranks was not ideal.
I needed a shortcut. So, I started writing and my spec scripts got me my first staff job on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
