Jason Castro sings “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen

Reactions from American Idol Fans

Tiff: Jason Castro had to go and choose one of my favorite songs of all time, “Hallelujah,” which is originally by Leonard Cohen, but is perhaps better known by Jeff Buckley (both brilliant,) and has been covered by countless others over the years. I’ll admit that I loved it solely on the principle that the song choice was …. yes. I don’t think his was the best cover ever, but the choice in itself scored points with me. And does anyone else think he favors Zach Braff, sans the dreads?

Kim: Yes, it’s ALL of our favorites of all time. I was expecting to really love this when I heard the song choices but despite the song choice, it was just so so to me. It’s tough when you cover a song that has been covered so many times in so many amazing ways (Rufus Wainright is my personal favorite). I didn’t care for his phrasing or pacing and all the emotion he put into it felt forced. It wasn’t bad though. He’ll get by on people being impressed by his song choice.
