American Idol season 8 finally kicks off today with the first of their audition series – which I sometimes like more than the show itself. I was pretty entertained by the fresh new faces vying for that golden ticket, not to mention seeing what the new dynamics between the judges would be like. I haven’t decided if I like Kara DioGuardi or not – I barely noticed that she was even there but on the other hand, if she hasn’t made much of a presence, I don’t see the need for her to be on the show in the first place.
One of the girls who I think might make it as far as the top 20 is a 16-year old girl from San Diego named Arianna Afsar. Not only did her voice completely stop me in my tracks as I was on my way to get more chips in the kitchen; she’s also quite a looker. In fact, she’s been in a couple of beauty pageants before and won California’s Outstanding Teen in 2005. The female version of David Archuleta? Perhaps!
The other contestant that made quite an impression on me – though I have my doubts as to whether she’ll last on the show – is 20-year old Katrina Darrell from Chino Hills, CA. This clothing designer/model thought she would make her audition more memorable by showing up in a bikini and told Ryan Seacrest that she would make out with him if she makes it through to the next round. Although he told her that that would be against the rules, she planted a big kiss on his lips when she got the golden ticket anyway! See Katrina’s audition for yourself.
