Jasmine Murray and Jorge Nunez are gone from the top 13 – not particularly shocking, considering that their performances were rather lackluster. Well, Jorge’s was due more to a bad song choice than anything, and his sweet nature just wasn’t enough to keep him in the show. Jasmine, on the other hand, has been a constant letdown since her audition. There goes the racial diversity in American Idol.
For a moment there, I thought that Megan Joy Corkrey and Anoop Desai would be out of the running because they stood along with Jasmine and Jorge. Ryan didn’t say that they were the bottom two though, and I’m pretty sure they were nowhere near the lowest. Anoop certainly has a strong fan base.
At the start of the show, Kanye West came on to sing Heartless and touch the hands of his fans moshing in the crowd. Before the Jasmine and Jorge’s elimination was announced, Kelly Clarkson came onstage to perform her hit single, My Life Would Suck Without You. Accoridng to Hits Daily Double, Kelly’s new album, All I Ever Wanted, is slated to debut at Number 1 next week at the Billboard 200.
Jasmin and Jorge were also interviewed by USA Today, as a parting gesture of sorts. Jorge says that he picked “Never Can Say Goodbye” because he was tired of doing ballads, and that he and Jasmine received a lot of encouragement from the judges. I like how he was very mature about his elimination, too. Jorge says that he was not hurt about being eliminated and believes that when something happens it’s meant to be. Jasmine too had a positive attitude towards her elimination, and feels lucky to have fans who actually voted for her. You can read Jasmine and Jorge’s full interview here and here.
