Tip for Gmail settings for Nokia N70

These settings worked for my N70 using Globe Telecoms connection

Mailbox Settings:
Mailbox name: gmail.com
My e-mail address: @gmail.com
UserName: @gmail.com
Password:
Incoming: pop.googlemail.com (note: default is pop.gmail.com) *
Outgoing: smtp.gmail.com
Mailbox type: POP3
Security(ports): On (993/995)
APOP Secure login: Off
Access Point in Use: myGlobe Internet (myGlobe GPRS wouldn’t connect)

*The above settings will bypass the annoying the Google certificate warnings.

Login to your gmail account and enable pop:
1. Go to Settings.
2. Forwarding and pop.
3. Select Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on.

It is better and more powerful than 3G. On top of the regular 3G services like Video Call and Multimedia Streaming, HSDPA allows for high-speed Internet browsing of up to 1.4 Mbps (megabits/second), with peaks of up to 1.8 Mbps – rather than the previous 384 kbps (kilobits/second) available on 3G. With an HSDPA data card for example, browsing the Internet on your laptop will be up to 25 times faster than dial-up speeds.

From being the first in the Philippines to offer GSM/SMS, Video Call, and Video IDD, Globe is now the 1st mobile network operator in the Asia Pacific region to have deployed a commercial HSDPA service!

Globe has simultaneously launched 3G and a technology called High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA), also known as 3.5G. Globe Mobile Broadband integrates these two technologies and Globe now offers this to its subscribers. This technology drastically increases the download speeds of 3G networks, delivering speeds of up to 1.4 Mbps with peaks of up to 1.8 Mbps – rather than the maximum 384 kilobits/sec. offered by regular 3G.

From May 5 till May 7, GLOBE is offering zero interest plans on their Nokia N70, Well of course, they need to make it affordable so that 3 G services can be availed.

I was too scared to meet up with Ren because “he” wanted to meet me only in Fairview which is far from my school. I also got suspicious. So I told him that I can let my mother pick it up for me . I also got scared for my mom so I told her to bring some sort of “bodyguard”. I told her it’s a dude wearing blue uniform with glasses. My mom was totally surprised to find out Ren was a lovely girl. Me and my paranoia and stereotyping. I now realize that good people still live in this crazy world. She didn’t also accept reward money. The strange thing though is she found my cellphone in a taxicab but I was never rode a cab that day. So now, I am wondering how I lost my cellphone. Was it stolen in the jeepney, or at the fair or did I drop it somewhere and some dude picked it up?

1) Emergency number

The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112.

If you find yourself out of coverage area of your mobile network and
there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any
existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and
interestingly…this number112 can be dialed even while the keypad is locked.

Try it out.

2) Locked the keys in the car? Your car has remote keys?

This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If
you happen to lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are home, call
someone on your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from
your car door and have the other person at your home press the unlock button,
holding it near the phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves
someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You
could be hundreds of miles away, and i! f you can reach someone who has the other
“remote” for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).

3) Hidden Battery power

Imagine your cell battery is very low, u r expecting an important call
and u don’t have a charger. Nokia instrument comes with a reserve
battery.
To activate, press the keys *3370# Your cell will restart with this
reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This
reserve will get charged when u charge your cell next time.

I was kind of hoping that she’d buy a new digital camera so I could borrow it. (I’m a jinx when it comes to eletronics). I think the Nokia 6680 is quite cool but our local cell phone providers don’t even offer 3G technology not till 2007. While it has a camera, it’s only 1.3 megapixels. But the quality is quite good though. Even at night mode, it took clear pics. I find it quite heavy though. Interesting Trivia: You can pawn Nokia cellphones with as much as 75% of the value. Yeah, even robbers/snatchers prefer cellphones over jewelry or watches now.
