Kristy Lee Cook, the seventh runner-up of this year’s American Idol, is the first in the bunch to release a solo album. Called “Why Wait”, her debut album features ten tracks of lightweight pop music with country elements. I took a quick listen of the album and I’d give it a 3/5. Most of the songs are ho-hum generic pop that could have been sung by anyone. While Kristy Lee Cook does have talent, the problem with her is that it’s not quite enough to make her really stand out among the thousands of other girls who can play guitar and carry a tune.
Even though most of the songs from Why Wait sound the same, there are a few infectious tunes that make you stop and listen. These tracks are “Homesick”, “Not Tonight”, and “I Think Too Much”. I hated “God Bless America” because it sounded like a Republican ditty, but maybe that’s just me.
If you’re still not sure you want to buy Kristy’s album, give it a quick listen first at CMT.
Track List:
1. 15 Minutes of Shame
2. Why Wait
3. Like My Mother Does
4. Hoping to Find
5. Baby Believe
6. Not Tonight
7. Plant the Seed
8. I Think Too Much
9. Homesick
10. God Bless the USA
Skechers USA just announced that they recently signed American Idol David Cook for a global ad campaign! David Cook is the first male endorser for the brand since 2002, and the second American Idol since Carrie Underwood in 2005. This means that Skechers will be using David’s image from fall 2008 until December 2009 in various advertisements that will reflect his rock star image, personality, and interests. The launch of the David Cook Skechers campaign also coincides with the PopTarts American Idols Live Tour 2008 and the debut of David’s solo album from RCA Records.
As for David Cook himself, he says he’s really thrilled to be the next face of Skechers. According to him, he’s always liked their product designs and felt really honored to be chosen to be a part of their campaign and the Skechers roster that include sensational singers like Christina Aguilera and Carrie Underwood.
I’m really looking forward to see what the ads are going to look like! I don’t think what he’s wearing in the photo above suits him very much but it’s a refreshing change from the scruffy rock star look he’s most known for.
David Archuleta had a layover at the Detroit airport and he was nice enough to give his fans a quick update while he makes his way to his next flight! Apparently, he’s on his way to Indianapolis for more album recording and he’s got mixed feelings about the tour ending. On the one hand, he’s had the time of his life with his fans and the rest of the Idols but he’s also been looking forward to doing is own thing. Holding the camera steady for David Archuleta is no less than the American Idol himself, David Cook! Without further ado, here’s the latest Archie vlog from his official YouTube channel. (Try to ignore the freaky background music.)
I just finished watching the music video of Crush and it’s very well-done. Very convincing acting on David Archuleta’s part, especially during the scene where he was passing sticky notes using his forehead. I have to admit my heart fluttered a little and for a brief moment, I wished that *I* was the girl on the video.
So did you like David Archuleta’s first music video too?
It’s confirmed - the release date of David Archuleta’s music video for “Crush” is September 15! Rumor says that the music video involves cartwheels, but it’s not sure whether it’s David who’s actually doing the cartwheels or some girls in the background. Updates from David Archuleta’s MySpace blog say that he’s already done shooting the video and in fact, he even got a glimpse of the rough cut of Crush!
UPDATES FROM THE MIDWEST & A HEARTFELT MENTION FOR THE SOUTH
Hey everyone. I’m here in Minnesota for our day off and am on my way to the airport for Wisconsin. I’ve been recording today, which is what I do on my days off lately haha. But I love it! It’s so much fun. Some recent things that have happened were our Minnesota show, and 2 Kansas City shows. All the crowds were amazing! And it was really special to be in Cook’s hometown.
Another thing that happened this week is that I got the rough cut of the ‘Crush’ video! It was so crazy to see a professional video done for me, and I can’t wait for you guys to see it. It was cool watching how a video comes together right from the beginning of the video treatment and hearing the idea of the director, to seeing it come to life with the cameras, cast, and music haha. It’s still hard having to watch yourself, but you have to make sure everything looks good for everyone to see haha. I’m getting a little better with that though.
On a more serious matter, I just want to make sure we remember everyone in the South who are dealing with the storms down there. My family in Florida have struggled quite a bit with hurricane experiences and it’s always a scary thing. So just remember to keep them in your prayers and hope the best for them.
Well we’re here at the airport now so I better get going. Talk to you guys later!
Despite what Paula Abdul’s rep says about her being excited about Kara DioGuardi on the show, I have a feeling all is not well among the judges. Last night, Simon Cowell spent the evening with the new judge Kara DioGuardi and Paula Abdul so the three of them could have some quality time. Simon apparently has big plans for the two women. According to People magazine, he said they had a picnic last night - with the girls in negligees and him in pajamas. Nothing sordid happened though, cos all they did was have cake til 2 am.
According to Kara, she was a little intimidated to join the all-star group, especially because of Simon’s reputation. But the judges welcomed her with open arms and she feels that she’ll be able to hold her own in the show. It is hoped that the addition of a new judge will improve the ratings of the show for the next season but even if it doesn’t, it’ll be interesting to see how the dynamics change with Kara around.
Remember Kara DioGuardi, the multiple-award winning producer/songwriter who’ll be taking care of David Cook and David Archuleta’s albums? Well she’s going to be the fourth judge for the eighth season of American Idol. That’s right - Simon, Randy, and Paula will be sharing the spotlight with this gorgeous, talented, and sassy lady.
Apparently, the decision was made because the producers of the show wanted to try something new. “Pop Idol”, the show American Idol is based on, has always had four judges but AI hasn’t had much luck with that. In an interview with 104.6 KISS FM in Phoenix, Paula Abdul said that she was concerned about the audience and how they will accept a fourth judge. She did, however, add that she’s really thrilled that Kara will be joining the show because the two of them are “like sisters”. Listen to the entire interview below.
Do you like the idea of Kara being the fourth judge? Should American Idol even have a fourth judge at all? How well do you think audiences are going to respond to her?
