The last photo of the Philippine Idol Top 12 finalists just before the show opened. The two performers with the lowest votes will be eliminated tonight.

The top 12 finalists are Armarie Cruz, 27;.Jellica Marie Mateo, 23; Cherry Ann “Apple” Chiu, 22;Paula Patricia Chavez, 23;Reymond Sajor, 27; Paul Andrae Ybañez, Miguel Mendoza, 17;.Jan Kurt Nieto, 24; Kenneth Dingle , 23; Gian Magdangal, 24; Stephanie Lazaro, 27; Maureen Marcelo, 26.

It is recalled that no one was eliminated last week due to technical glitches with the voting system. This week is an exceptional week since two will have to go home.

Goodbye Stef!

Goodbye Drae!

They get to sing one more time. Really, I am quite happy with the results. Though everyone is a great singer, there are other factors to consider like their star quality, versatility and audience impact. Drae and Stef just didn’t get enough votes to make them stay. You will notice that there is less emotional scenes during this elimination.

At the end of Drae’s finale, they hug each other one more time. There is no dry eye among the top 12. Even the uber-cool and collected Jelli is dabbing her eyes apparently touched by the goobye scenes of Drae and Stef.

They must have grown quite close since they started to be together last July.

After the show, I took more photos of the Idol finalists. I overheard Ryan C being interviewed

From what I overheard, it seems that the audience is listening now to the judges. As the contest proceeds in the following weeks, voters are less partisan and are faced with choosing the real talent.

It was a night of tension and surprises. The most surprising was the announcement that Ken Dingle made it to the top 12. He did not have a spectacular voice even when he wasn’t sick. Another is Stephanie. I’m beginning to wonder if there is some connection that both of these 2 winners are Filipino-Aussies. They will have to prove that they are worthy to be in the top 12 .

View this video of Ken singing. He’s singing A House is Not a Home .Ugh, he was pitchy throughout the song. We know much later that he was ill that week. But during the top 12 male performance night, he was just average.

Tickets to the Philippine Idol Semi-Finals are “by invitation” basis. So I’m pretty grateful to my dear husband who got two tickets for the September 3 elimination. I don’t know if he can get tickets for the September 2 . The contestants get only 4 tickets each. They should make this open to the public. I wonder why it’s only by invitation.

It’s amazing how this Playstation 3 is $600 and cost $200 MORE than competition . The interface does not provide anything new or groundbreaking to deserve such a more expensive price. The Xbox 360 can do more than just play games (download games, videos, play music, media center, and more.) It is very straight forward based on the spokesperson but should we pay 600$ or more for a straight forward system?

Thousands Vie to Be Next ‘American Idol’ at Season 6 Tryouts in California

PASADENA, Calif. — Thousands of “American Idol” hopefuls showed up at the Rose Bowl on Tuesday with wide-eyed dreams of becoming the next Taylor Hicks or Carrie Underwood.

After waiting all night and standing in line for hours, most contestants got less than a minute to sing a few bars — and then the boot.

Michael Taylor, 21, of El Monte, who works at a customer call service center, was among those quickly dismissed from the tryouts. Fox publicity representatives were more sensitive, saying he “was not moving forward.”

“This is just a stepping stone for me and I’m looking past it,” said Taylor, who asked an observer if he could sing a few notes to demonstrate his talent. He had a nice soulful style — but obviously not nice enough.
