David Cook and David Archuleta in Manila Concert Photos

Thousands of screaming fans turned out to see sensational heartthrobs David Cook and David Archuleta perform a one-night only concert at the Mall of Asia. Tickets were mostly sold out and the few that were left were too expensive, but I suppose it was worth it to see their favorite Idols in the flesh. Days before the concert, David Cook and David Archuleta made several media stops to really get to know the Philippines – they guested in noontime show Eat Bulaga as well as several radio shows. Apparently, David Archuleta tried green mangoes and wanted to try balut (duck embryo), but his manager didn’t let him!

As for the concert itself, it was the time of everyone’s life. A fan reports:

When Archie sang his first song, David Cook was watching him backstage. But for me, the sweetest part of the show was when David Cook called Archie to come out. Archie joined him in singing the last part of “A Daily Anthem” and the crowd went wild. David Cook gave Archie a big hug. THAT WAS SOOO SWEEET! They really are the best of friends.

American Idol Finale Spoilers and Rumors

Yesterday I blogged about the supposed performance of KISS and David Bowie with Adam Lambert at the American Idol season 8 finale, as well as some artists who will most definitely be there. No news on whether the KISS thing is true, but there are more American Idol finale spoilers and rumors circulating around the net.

According to the rumor mill, the season 8 coronation song will be called “This is How I Want to Be” and was written by Joseph Belmaati, Hed Mich Hansen, Jorgen Kjell Elofsson, and Kara DioGuardi. It was a single sung by Kristine Blond, and Adam Lambert and Kris Allen can supposedly rearrange the song, but are not allowed to play instruments on stage. I’m not really sure if there’s any truth to this because the single was released way back in 2001 – it’s kind of old and outdated, don’t you think?

Extra also reports that Britney Spears will be performing for the Idol finale, which seemed plausible until Britney Spear’s reps exclusively told Perez Hilton that no, this rumor is false. Who else here is a little disappointed that there won’t be a Britney Spears spectacle during the finale?

We already know that Jason Mraz, Keith Urban, Cyndi Lauper, and David Cook will be there. According to a MySpace message sent by Our Lady Peace, David Cook will be doing a cover of Permanent for the Idol Finale. The performance can be downloaded via iTunes with all proceeds going to David’s charity program for brain tumor research, which he recently set up for his brother Adam, who died of cancer just recently.

And for those of you who don’t know how the finale works out, this is how it’s gonna happen. There are two contestants and three rounds. In the first round, the contestants get to sing their favorite song from the season. I hope Adam Lambert does Mad World again; Kris Allen should definitely do Ain’t no Sunshine. For round two, Simon Fuller gets to pick what they sing. And in the final round is the Winner’s Single, which will be penned by Kara DioGuardi. Wonder if the winner’s single will be any good, or if it will be the same old radio-friendly generic pop song.

David Cook and David Archuleta are going to perform in a one night only concert on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at the Mall of Asia. Apparently, tickets are all sold out!

Anoop Desai and Lil Rounds are OUT!

Sorry I couldn’t make a recap of the performances on Tuesday; I was swamped with work and didn’t have time to watch TV! But I did see the eliminations round and I was really surprised with the results. Because the judges saved Matt Giraud last week, the seven Idols faced a double elimination last night. I was expecting him to go this week, but Allison Iraheta ended up in the bottom 3 along with Anoop Desai and Lil Rounds. And with last night’s eliminations round, ethnic diversity in the show ended because because Anoop and Lil had to go.

I wasn’t too surprised about Lil’s departure because I was personally getting tired of her declining performances – and I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels the same way. But Anoop? Sure, he annoyed me at times and came off as a little too arrogant, but he got better in the last two weeks. Not to mention that he seems to have a strong fan base online. I didn’t like how American Idol didn’t even bother giving him a proper goodbye – he had to share his exit video with Lil. At least his last performance was fantastic. Incidentally, this is the first American Idol season without an African American female in the top 5.

Other noteworthy things about last night’s episode: Paula Abdul choreographed the Disco group dance number and it was the best EVER. They were dancing to Michael Jackson’s Shake Your Body Down to the Ground and it was wild. David Archuleta was the guest performer and he sang Touch My Hand, though it wasn’t really a very good song. He’s still adorable though – I really do think he would have made a better Idol than David Cook. Stronger fan base, plus has there been an American Idol as young as he?

So what do you think about Lil and Anoop’s departure?

Three days ago, David Cook began recording his first single. He revealed to ABC News Radio that he’s the type to just hole up and write songs by himself; had never co-written songs with anyone before. It’s been a cool experience, he said, to be able to attack the songs from another standpoint. Working with other songwriters also allowed him to reveal more of himself and delving into some aspects of his life and his experiences that he would never have felt comfortable sharing a year ago. Despite being a solo artist, David hopes that his album will have a band feel to it. His old bandmate from Midwest Kings, Neal Tiemann, will be recording with him at least, so it’ll feel like the old band days, at least!

As for the American Idol Tour, David Cook’s having the time of his life. “I love it,” he says. “Every city has its own kind of stamp, every city has its own vibe.” The highlight of the tour so far is playing golf in Portland with Michael Johns.

And speaking of tours, David also mentioned that his concert date in Manila hasn’t been confirmed yet. :( Looks like we’ll have to try not to get too excited as we sit tight and wait for more updates!
